I feel autumn slowing winning the tug of war over summer, particularly in the mornings and in the evenings.  While the hot sun still dominates our October days, its intensity is fading a bit.  And the occasional cool breeze feels like a promise.  A promise that fall will come, as it always does.

We brought out the Halloween decor today and the girls helped me decorate. To see them get excited about what they found in the storage bin that they remembered from the year prior … it made me feel nothing short of …

fantastic.  These traditions are unique to my family, the family my husband and I created. We are real-life parents doing what our parents did for us, just in our own way … and based on the girls' reactions to helping me this year, I just stepped into a whole new level of parenthood where I kinda look like I know what I’m doing.  So I’d like to thank Halloween.  Because, while it is my least favorite holiday, it is the first in a string of holidays that allows me to feel like I got this parenting thing down, man.
